|After 20 years living in Wellington, we shifted to Waiheke for a change
in lifestyle and eventually found this gorgeous
piece of Waiheke. The four bedroom homestead was built in 1994 by the
previous owner/builder. We bought the property in mid-2012 and began
renovating it into one we could rent out for others to enjoy. Towards
the end of 2012 the two bedroom cabin became available and we
transported the cabin onto its current location at the start of our
Church Bay Road, on which we're situated, is named after a Maori Anglican Church that was erected in 1881 on the gently sloped rise of land, now known as Church Bay Farm. However, the church blew down in a gale many years ago, and the timber ultimately burned in a grass fire. The surrounding farmland was sold and eventually subdivided in the late 1980s. A proviso of the subdivision was that a substantial acreage of native trees were planted. Indeed our property includes a fraction of this covanented native bush, which over time we intend to build tracks through down to a stream that runs through the bottom of the gully. A reduced version of the Church Bay Farm still exists and part of it is opposite us, and runs up the valley to Cable Bay winery and restaurant. Across the road from us, Mudbrick vineyard has been in operation since 1992, firstly as a winery and soon after as a restaurant as well. Next door to Mudbrick, Jurassic Ridge - a boutique family vineyard - has won international accolades and their cellar door is open daily for wine tastings.
In our unobtrusive style of hospitality, we invite you to share our home and our gorgeous island. It really is Gorgeous Inn Waiheke.
